More Information:

Medication Reviews

Patients who are on repeat medication will be asked annually to review their prescriptions, although certain medications may require more frequent reviews. You'll receive a notification message on your repeat prescription slip when a review is due.

Medication reviews are conducted by the GP and can be either face-to-face or conducted over the telephone as a consultation. There are exceptions where our nursing staff may review medication during specialist clinics, such as for diabetes or asthma, but it's always best to check if you're unsure.

Once you receive this message on your prescription slip, please schedule an appointment promptly to avoid any delays in receiving further prescriptions. This appointment can be either a telephone consultation or a face-to-face appointment.

Electronic prescription service

The Electronic Prescription Service (EPS) is an NHS service. It gives you the chance to change how your GP sends your prescription to the place you choose to get your medicines or appliances from.

What does this mean for you?

You will have more choice about where to get your medicines from because they can be collected from a pharmacy near to where you live, work or shop.

For further information on:

  • Choosing a pharmacy or other dispenser
  • Cancelling or changing your choice of pharmacist or dispenser
  • What can I do if I'm unhappy with the process?

Repeat Dispensing

If you, or someone you care for, use the same medicines regularly, you may be able to benefit from repeat dispensing from your pharmacist.  This means you won't have to visit the surgery every time you need more medicines.

Prescribing of over the counter medicines is changing

Your GP, nurse or pharmacist will not generally give you a prescription for over the counter medicines for a range of minor health concerns.

Instead, over the counter medicines are available to buy in a pharmacy or supermarket in your local community.

What to do with old medicines

Take it to the pharmacy you got it from.

Do not put it in your household bin or flush it down the toilet.
